Contemporary Turkish renaissance man Zulfu Livaneli is a writer, composer, singer and filmmaker, who has also had a distinguished political career. Veda is narrated by Ataturk's childhood friend and devoted follower Salih Bozok. Accompanying Ataturk through his life and tumultuous career, Salih Bozok is so overcome with grief by the leader's death that he commits suicide. The film also explores the relationships between Ataturk, Fikriye and Latife - Fikriye too is destined to meet a tragic end. In keeping with its historical significance, this is a film on an epic scale. From a childhood friendship in Thessaloniki, to the momentous events that gave birth to a modern nation, it's a tale of battle, revolution and statehood with a cast of thousands, and it aims to show the man behind the legend.
