Movie Synopsis:

Before Charles Xavier and Erik Lensherr took the names Professor X and Magneto, they were two young men discovering their powers for the first time. Before they were archenemies, they were closest of friends, working together, with other Mutants (some familiar, some new), to stop the greatest threat the world has ever known. In the process, a rift between them opened, which began the eternal war between Magneto's Brotherhood and Professor X's X-MEN.

Funny X-Men: First Class deleted scene released [25th August 2011 09:58:53]

Entertainment Weekly has released a deleted scene from X-Men: First Class that proves there was definitely something to the countless intimate moments between Charles and Erik.

The clip, which will be released on the upcoming First Class DVD, takes place during the duo's mutant recruitment montage, after they enter a gentlemen's club to discuss teaming up with the insect-winged Angel.

In the film, Magneto reveals himself (as a mutant, not in the law-breaking sense) to Angel by making a champagne bucket float and camply asking a smug Xavier if he would "like more tea Vicar?"

The deleted scene extends on that to show James McAvoy's Charles use his Jedi mind tricks to make The Fass appear to be in a red wig, sequined blue dress, fishnet tights and boots. He's honestly never looked sexier.

It's almost criminal Matthew Vaughn decided to take this moment of genius out of the final cut. But perhaps the idea that Professor X openly thought of Magneto in women's clothing was a bit much.

X-Men First Class jets in at number one [6th June 2011 01:26:49]

The X-Men blasted back onto the big screen this weekend, and made their way, quite comfortably, straight to first place at the box office.

Though X-Men: First Class didn't enjoy an opening weekend anywhere near as profitable as the last two X films (The Last Stand and Wolverine), it still enjoyed a decent debut with $54m.

Market analysts are blaming that comparatively low figure (Wolverine opened with $85m) on the lack of Hugh Jackman ? but considering the rave reviews First Class has been receiving, it should definitely have staying power at the box office.

Suffering from less kind reviews was The Hangover: Part II, which fell to second place with $42m, while other sequel Kung Fu Punda 2 plumped for third ($24m). Pirates 4 dropped one spot to fourth ($18m), as did Bridemaids in fifth ($12m).

The rest of the top ten looked pretty the same as last week, with the notable absence of Rio ? previously in eighth, it's now nowhere in sight.

Thor took sixth place ($4.2m), Fast Five reversed into seventh ($3.2m), while Midnight In Paris ($2.9m), Jumping The Broom ($865,000) and Something Borrowed ($835,000) were all in eighth, ninth and tenth position respectively.

Next week, the mighty Super 8 opens ? expect it to completely annihilate the competition. Source: www.totalfilm.com

X-Men: First Class sequel plans revealed [13th April 2011 06:02:45]

The talent behind X-Men: First Class have revealed possible ideas for the next chapters in the mutant superhero saga.

The ending of First Class sets up a potential sequel that will be "even more fun", according to director Matthew Vaughn.

"First Class is similar to Batman Begins, where you have the fun of introducing the characters and getting to know them, but that takes time," says Vaughn.

"But with the second one you can just get on with it and have a rollicking good time," he continues. "That's the main difference between Begins and The Dark Knight."

With First Class set in 1962, part two could move on to the late '60s ? a period Vaughn is keen to x-plore.

"1962 is far more grounded in the world of the '50s," he says. "I think it takes about five years for a decade to really start getting its identity, so the fun thing about this for me would be doing [a sequel] in the latter part of the decade, where you've got The Stones, The Beatles, Flower Power?"

There's also the possibility that the next chapters in the planned First Class trilogy will be set in the 70s and 80s respectively.

"That's an idea that's been discussed," admits producer Bryan Singer. "How the characters go through time. But only to a point ? they can't age too fast!"

Finally, James McAvoy says he'd like to see his character Charles Xavier get "really messed up" in the sequels.

"In First Class he uses Cerebro for the first time and maybe it unlocks something in his head ? maybe he can't keep the voices out or something," the actor speculates.

"So in the second movie his journey could be about getting himself out of a mess. And then in the third movie he become? Patrick Stewart!"

James McAvoy talks X-Men: First Class's Charles Xavier [23rd January 2011 07:21:44]

Following a recent deluge of X-Men: First Class pics, James McAvoy has spoken to Screen Rant about the movie.

In particular, he discusses his portrayal of Charles Xavier, the future leader of the X-Men, who was played memorably by Patrick Stewart in the previous movies.

When asked about how Professor X would be trained in terms of combat, McAvoy responded: "He's not too combat savvy in this film, it has to be said. He doesn't do too much, he's sort of a consultant with the combat guys."

"But he does get involved in a few little bits of fisticuffs, I wouldn't say that he comes out well in any of them, but I wouldn't say that he gets his ass kicked either. Yeah he's not particularly combat ready."

On what he took from Patrick Stewart's portrayal of the character, he said: "I'll tell you what I did take ? I looked at all of the things that he did the hardest. I looked at all of the things that came out the strongest in his performance and we said we have to go the opposite way."

"Simply to validate why we were making this film, because if they were just the same there would be no reason to make it, we have to show how different he is. We have to show a journey ? so he clearly has to start in a different place."

"So the main things that we looked into are the fact that he is ego-less, selfless, a very good person, he's sexless ? he's sort of like a monk."

"We thought of what the opposite of all of those things would be ? so now he drinks a lot, chases women quite a lot, and doesn't mind sort of abusing his power to get ahead."

"He's definitely got an ego, and he's definitely a little bit selfish. So that's where we start with him, and so he's now got to grow towards ?Sir Patrick."

McAvoy went on to add that the events of the film will help to shape the character into the Xavier we know.

When asked the question on every X-fans lips (namely, will he end up bald and in the chair in First Class), the actor offered cryptically: "You'll have to wait and see, you'll have to wait and see."

"It's actually quite satisfying when you get to say that: ?I'm not allowed to say.' Because nobody's actually told you that you're not allowed to say, but it's sort of implied." Source: www.totalfilm.com

X-Men First Class: more official images and poster released [20th January 2011 09:45:58]

Hot on the heels of yesterday's official but oddly fake-looking first promo image of the X-Men: First Class cast, three stills from the movie and a teaser poster have hit the net.

Though this flurry of activity could be seen as the film attempting to keep up with the torrent of other superhero movie news that's been coming at us this week, First Class director Matthew Vaughn doesn't seem too fussed about the competition.

"With Green Lantern, I don't know about that one," he says, "I couldn't get my head around the trailer, to be honest ? look, I will say the following: X-Men as a brand is bigger than Captain America, Thor and the Green Lantern, all put together."

We're with him there, and the new images above and below show off the film's edgy '60s vibe. Vaughn and co definitely seem to have been watching some vintage Bond for inspiration.

Hugh Jackman will not appear in X-Men: First Class [3rd November 2010 09:41:24]

Wolverine's been a constant a source of rumour mill half truths all year, thanks to continued debates over who'll be helming his second solo film outing. But one rumour we can officially quash is the one saying that Hugh Jackman will be cameoing in Matthew Vaughn's upcoming mutant prequel X-Men: First Class."He's not in the movie. He's in the Wolverine movies," says producer Bryan Singer. Easy come, easy go. It's sad news for those hoping for the mullet-faced Aussie to put in a continuity-aiding vignette, but not exactly the end of the world. X-Men: First Class opens in the UK on 2 June, 2011.
