Snow White And The Huntsman to be a trilogy [4th July 2011 06:16:55]

Snow White And The Huntsman producer Joe Roth has revealed that the Kristen Stewart-starring fairytale revamp is being set up as a trilogy.

"It's meant to be the first in a series of films," he says. "This story will end, but there will be questions remaining for these three characters."

In Huntsman, Stewart plays the role of Snow White, who's cast out by Charlize Theron's evil queen. Luckily for our heroine, though, she's taken in by the hunky Huntsman (Chris Hemsworth).

"We retain the basic story in the same way we retain the basic story of Alice, a young girl meant to be the queen who is cast out," Roth says.

"The Huntsman is a mercenary, in the sense that he's a guy who is very able in the woods, more able than most anyone. His job is to capture runaway girls, who are all fleeing the kingdom because of the queen.

"He's a nondescript bounty hunter, as we first meet him... He's not a nice guy, but not only that he's someone who has lost hope and lost faith. He has lost his wife, given up on everything."

On White herself, Roth adds: "She starts out not a damsel in distress, but innocent, and after 11 years of imprisonment by the Evil Queen, she escapes and learns the ways of a warrior in the woods."

For Twilight star Stewart, it looks like she's just hopped from one beefy, teen-girl-baiting, megabuck franchise to another... Source: www.totalfilm.com

Bob Hoskins joins Snow White And The Huntsman [22nd June 2011 01:10:58]

Bob Hoskins, Eddie Izzard and Toby Jones have all signed up to play dwarfs in Snow White And The Huntsman.

Yesterday's casting news had Ian McShane enlisted to play Caesar, the leader of a gang of dwarfs, which seems to have pushed along negotiations for the trio.

According to Heat Vision, Hoskins will play blind dwarf Constantine, Izzard burly dwarf Tiberius and Jones a timid dwarf called Claudius.

Not only that but Sherlock Holmes' Eddie Marsan and Stephen Graham are both in talks to play warriors in the film, meaning this is a production heavily relying on British acting talent.

Rupert Sanders is directing this version of the Snow White fairytale, which stars Kristen Stewart as Snow White and Chris Hemsworth as her love interest the Huntsman.

Ian McShane is a dwarf in Snow White And The Huntsman [21st June 2011 09:35:30]

Ian McShane has landed the role of dwarf leader Caesar in Snow White And The Huntsman.

Just one of the myriad Snow White films currently in development, Huntsman is being set up over at Universal and already boasts an impressive cast.

Kristen Stewart is playing the titular beauty, Chris Hemsworth the Huntsman and Charlize Theron the evil queen whose jealousy tumbles Snow White into a dangerous adventure.

McShane is a fine addition to that A-list cast, the actor most recently having brought the goods in the latest Pirates Of The Caribbean movie ? even though he wasn't given nearly enough to do.

Hopefully Huntsman will recognise what a coup McShane's casting is and duly beef up the role of Caesar.

Huntsman will begin shooting this August with director Rupert Sanders at the helm. It'll be in competition with Tarsem Singh's currently shooting (and untitled) Snow White film when both are released early next year. Source: www.totalfilm.com

Chris Hemsworth confirmed for Snow White And The Huntsman [16th May 2011 04:42:38]

As Thor continues to rake in the cash at the box office, star Chris Hemsworth has landed the role of the Huntsman in Universal's Snow White And The Huntsman.

Hemsworth has been rumoured to be in the running for the role ever since Viggo Mortensen backed out, and he's finally clinched the part.

The Aussie native will work alongside Kristen Stewart, Charlize Theron and Sam Claflin in the production, which is being directed by Rupert Sanders.

Putting a spin on the classic fairytale, Sanders' film sees the Huntsman going on the run with Snow White after he fails to fulfil the Evil Queen's orders to kill her.

As he teaches her how to survive in the wilds of the forest, a romance flourishes between Snow White and the Huntsman.

Hemsworth is also currently attached to a remake of Red Dawn, and stars in The Cabin In The Woods, which opens later this year. He's currently still playing Thor in The Avengers. Source: www.totalfilm.com

Snow White And The Huntsman has its prince [5th May 2011 07:13:05]

Star-on-the-rise Sam Claflin has been cast as the prince in Snow White And The Huntsman.

Amid rumours that Chris Hemsworth is currently the favourite to play the titular huntsman (in lieu of Hugh Jackman), Claflin is the first actor cast since Kristen Stewart was announced as Snow White.

Claflin is fast becoming a young actor to watch, having scored a lead role in upcoming fourquel Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides.

He's also booked in to star in The Seventh Son with Jeff Bridges and Julianne Moore before Huntsman starts filming this autumn.

This new version of Snow White also stars Charlize Theron as the evil queen, with the story following Snow White escaping the queen's clutches and encountering the huntsman.

Hugh Jackman won't be Snow White's Huntsman [14th April 2011 08:08:27]

Snow White and the Huntsman continues its run of bad luck with the news that Hugh Jackman will not be taking a lead role.

The actor entered negotiations with Universal after Viggo Mortensen left the project, but now The Wrap have confirmed that talks with Jackman have ended.

The lack of a lead puts Rupert Sanders' movie even further behind Tarsem Singh's rival property, which is gradually gathering pace.

Snow White and the Huntsman currently has Charlize Theron locked in as The Evil Queen, and Kristen Stewart is set to play Snow White (though according to The Wrap's report, she hasn't officially signed on yet).

Singh's version boasts Lily Collins as Snow White, Julia Roberts as The Evil Queen, and Armie Hammer as the dashing prince.

No reason is given for Jackman's decision, although he is currently busy trying to find a director for stalled X-Men Origins sequel, The Wolverine. Source: www.totalfilm.com

Hugh Jackman offered role in Snow White And The Huntsman [6th April 2011 23:28:27]

Hugh Jackman has been offered the role of the Huntsman in Universal's Snow White And The Huntsman.

Viggo Mortensen recently passed on the part, leaving Universal scrabbling about for a suitable replacement.

We'd say they've found the perfect alternative in Jackman, who's already fit as a fiddle and the perfect embodiment of the fairytale character.

If Jackman signs on, he'd join Kristen Stewart as Snow White and Charlize Theron as the evil Queen.

Considering Jackman's other big project, The Wolverine, has hit a major snag with director Darren Aronofsky departing, he should have the time to sneak in a role as the Huntsman before another director is found for the comic adap.
This Snow White update shouldn't be confused with Tarsem Singh's own Snow White film, which will star Lily Collins as the titular heroine and Julia Roberts as the evil Queen. Source: www.totalfilm.com
