Click here to review/comment on Prometheus.Prometheus has yet to have the rule run over it by the MPAA, but given the amount of slippery, scream-inducing terror hinted at in the trailer, we wouldn't be surprised to see it bag an R rating. However, will Fox be happy to kiss goodbye to the potential profits such a certificate would prevent?
Well, not according to Fox CEO Tom Rothman, who promises that whatever version of the film Ridley Scott wants to put out will be the one that meets the censors.
"I can assure the fans absolutely they can take it that the film will not be compromised either way," says Rothman. "So if that means that the film is R, then it'll be an R.
If it's PG-13, then it'll be a PG-13. But it will not be compromised."
At the recent footage reveal, Scott spoke about what a nonsense the whole issue of certification is, and called upon the MPAA to "get their house in order". It certainly seems unthinkable that he would okay a sanitised cut of the film in order to wring a few more quid out of the box office.
That said, it may be that Prometheus's horror is more implied than explicit, allowing the film to get away with a broader certificate. That said, if there really is a scene to rival the impact of the chestburster (as Scott has hinted there will be), that's probably not the case... Source: www.totalfilm.com
Prometheus's viral marketing campaign continues to snowball, with today bringing a special email from Peter Weyland to all those who had registered with the Weyland Industries website.
The email provides users with "shareholder access" to the website, which has unlocked a few more tidbits of info concerning the nature of the company.
For example, there is an updated timeline that nods to the company's terraforming research, as well as making reference to an interstellar police force. From that, we can conclude that Weyland was responsible for founding the Colonial Marines in 2065.
The email message read as follows:
"Valued Shareholder,
Thank you for your interest in the investment opportunities offered by Weyland Corporation.
Submitted for your consideration, Weyland Industries' most recent financial information is now available on Weylandindustries.com.
This information is current as of this quarter and covers progress on Weyland Industries endeavours including but not limited to our ongoing cybernetics program, terraforming activities and Project Prometheus.
Visit our Investor Information page for an in-depth financial overview of the company." Source: www.totalfilm.com
Prometheus has long been thought to share a connection with Ridley Scott's previous sci-fi smash Alien, and according to Scott, that connection will be embodied by the character portrayed by Guy Pearce.
"When the first Alien movie and Blade Runner were made," explains Scott, "I thought that in the near future the world will be owned by large companies. This is why we have the Tyrell Corporation in Blade Runner, and Weyland-Yutani in Alien. They sent the Nostromo spaceship."
"The Prometheus is owned by an entrepreneur called Peter Weyland," he continues, "and is played by Guy Pearce. That's the connection between the two films, and nothing more. Prometheus is a new film, a new world, and is full of new ideas. And of course new monsters as well."
How do you explain the Space Jockey then Ridley? Hmmm? In any case, this latest update is an intriguing nugget of info. We're presuming Pearce's involvement will probably be fairly minimal, but it's interesting that both the Nostromo and the Prometheus are sent on their missions on the back of Weyland family funding. Ridley Scott has plumbed for a relative unknown actor to play Noomi Rapace's space-bound love interest in Prometheus.
Deadline confirm that Logan Marshall-Green has just signed on to the role in Scott's belated, distant cousin to Alien.
Marshall-Green will play Holloway, a space craft crew member, and a love interest for Rapace's Elizabeth.
The 34-year-old actor was last seen on the big screen in lift thriller Devil and Brooklyn's Finest, while he's also done TV work with The O. C.
He joins Michael Fassbender, Charlize Theron, Idris Elba, Sean Harris and Katie Dickie. Filming on Prometheus will commence in the UK this month. We couldn't be more excited. Source: www.totalfilm.com
