Sin City 2 has to be one of the most-anticipated properties of recent years, with director Robert Rodriguez continually teasing news of the sequel before putting it off time and again.
Now however, things appear to finally be moving, with a start date finally in sight for the long-awaited project. Rodriguez told The Hollywood Reporter that production is due to start on Sin City 2 this summer, hot on the heels of Machete 2, which begins filming in April.
Rodriguez wouldn't be drawn on confirming any cast members, although he did indicate that the project will be likely to target a similarly eclectic mix as the original.
As for which of the comic-book storylines the sequel will adapt, nothing has been confirmed as yet, although previous interviews have suggested A Dame to Kill For will be the primary subject matter.
"Sin City 2 is primarily an adaptation of the book A Dame to Kill For," said Frank Miller last year. "It also features the short story, Just Another Saturday Night and two new stories, one involving Jessica Alba's character, Nancy Callahan, that I came up with for the movie in order to tie things together and make it be more united with the first."

Oscar-winning screenwriter William Monahan has been brought in to give the Sin City 2 script a polish.
Director Robert Rodriguez previously said that financing for the film had been agreed and that Frank Miller's script "could shoot as early as later this year." According to The Hollywood Reporter, Monahan - who scooped a golden baldy for The Departed's best adapted screenplay - has now been hired to work on Sin City 2.
Fansite rumours suggest Mickey Rourke and Jessica Alba could both return in a sequel to the 2005 graphic novel adaptation.
Monahan has been a very busy boy of late. As well as scripting Tom Cruise sci-fi flick Oblivion, he will also reunite with The Departed's Martin Scorsese to remake The Gambler. Source: www.totalfilm.com
Robert Rodriguez claims that financing has already been agreed to film Sin City 2.
The director wowed comic-book fans by announcing at Comic-Con that Frank Miller has written a script that "could shoot as early as later this year." Talking to We Got This Covered in San Diego, Rodriguez added that the money is also now in place.
"Sin City 2 is going good, we're just finishing the script for that, we already got the money. We have everything we need so we can just start shooting as soon as we get the pages," We Got This Covered reported.
The sequel is expected to be based on Miller's comic book A Dame To Kill For, which features the characters of Marv and Nancy and could see Mickey Rourke and Jessica Alba return. Source: www.totalfilm.com
