The Autobots Bumblebee, Ratchet, Ironhide and Sideswipe led by Optimus Prime, are back in action, taking on the evil Decepticons, who are determined to avenge their defeat in 2009s Transformers Revenge of the Fallen. In this new movie, the Autobots and Decepticons become involved in a perilous space race between the U.S. and Russia, and once again human Sam Witwicky has to come to the aid of his robot friends. There's new characters too, including a new villain in the form of Shockwave, a longtime "Transformers" character who rules Cybertron while the Autobots and Decepticons battle it out on Earth. Transformers: Dark of the Moon is expected to hit theaters July 1st, 2011 in Real D 3D and IMAX 3D.

Over the weekend alone, Transformers: Dark Of The Moon took a hefty $97m. By then the film had already been in cinemas for over three days (it opened Tuesday evening), bringing its total to a mahussive $162m.
The threequel's also fared well internationally, taking an estimated $370m around the globe. Does that mean a T4 is just around the corner?
Both director Bay and star Shia LaBeouf have called time on their involvement in the franchise, though the latter has admitted he expects Paramount to reboot (re-robot?) the franchise in order to continue without them.
Other big hitters this weekend included Cars 2, which manoeuvred into second place ($25m), while Bad Teacher hung around in third ($14.1m).
The only other new-openers were Tom Hanks' Larry Crowne, which debuted in fourth with an underwhelming $13m, and Monte Carlo, in at fifth with $7.6m. Here's how the rest of the top ten looked?
1 Transformers 3 $97,400,000 $162.1
2 Cars 2 $25,110,000 $116
3 Bad Teacher $14,100,000 $59.5
4 Larry Crowne $13,000,000 $13
5 Monte Carlo $7,600,000 $7.6
6 Super 8 $7,500,000 $108
7 Green Lantern $6,270,000 $101.9
8 Mr. Popper's Penguins $5,100,000 $50.1
9 Bridesmaids $3,520,000 $152.8
10 Midnight in Paris $3,438,000 $33.6 Source: www.totalfilm.com
Director Michael Bay jumped to the defence of his Transformers movies when journalists dared to brand first sequel Revenge Of The Fallen a flop.
During a press conference for the third Transformers film ? subtitled Dark Of The Moon ? Bay was asked if he was worried T3 would be a flop like T2.
Never one to mince his words, Bay responded: "Your comment is a little insulting to the artists who worked on this. The movie did make a lot of money."
"I admit it's not one of my better films. It's by far not the worst film ever made; that's just false... The movie doesn't make $835 million being the worst film."
The director went on to explain why Fallen wasn't quite as good as the first film in the franchise.
"We had a writer's strike during movie two, so it was a tough game getting it going," he says.
"It really wasn't fair to the writers because normally a movie like this would take eight months to write and, because of the strike, the writers had about three, so it was a complicated, rough process making that movie.
"On the third one we tried to get it right and really deliver and I think we did. It's the best of the three, personally, to me."

Speaking to MTV at the MTV Movie Awards, Shia LaBeouf said that he won't be coming back to Transformers for a fourth outing.
He said: "I'm not coming back to another one." He also added that he doesn't think Michael Bay will return either.
LaBeouf further added: "It still is a hot property, I think, especially coming out of the third one. So I imagine they'll reboot it at some point with someone else."
The franchise is more about the action than the characters, so a reboot doesn't seem a necessary step.
A new director and cast could easily guide the Autobots into further adventures, but Shia was enthusiastic about the third film, calling it "our best movie."

The first official promo poster for Transformers 3 (or Transformers: Dark of the Moon, if we absolutely must call it that) has arrived.
JoBlo have the one sheet, and it's a little bit underwhelming to be honest.
Good points? Optimus Prime is looking pretty epic, with the scale impressing: it's easy to forget quite how bloody massive he is! It's also a good move to leave out the godawful subtitle for a streamlimed TF3.
Negative? It doesn't look much different to any other promo shot of Prime you might have seen over the last few years to be honest. There's also some unidentified glowing going on, and no hint to what the dark of the moon could actually be.
Michael Bay has added a load of new characters to the threequel: Rosie Huntington-Whiteley replaces Megan Fox as Shia LaBeouf's love interest, and John Malkovich, Frances McDormand and Patrick Dempsey are among the franchise newbies.
The first official trailer is due to hit any time now, so keep your eyes peeled for that.
