On her walk to school, teenage Ayano (Yagyu Miyu) is abducted by a stranger disguised in a school uniform. She awakes in a locked basement to find that her kidnapper will not utter a word and seems intent on starving her to death. Meanwhile, Ayano's distraught mother, Naoko (Takizawa Ryoko), discovers that the abduction has roots in her own dark past. Eighteen years earlier, she cruelly dumped her first child on the streets of Tokyo. Having grown up in an orphanage, Mika (Oho Sayoko) learned that her mother had remarried and given birth to another daughter, as if nothing had happened. Now she burns with the desire for vengeance by making Ayano suffer as she has suffered. The debut feature by young Japanese director Naoki Hashimoto, this psychological horror offers a shocking twist on the issue of child abandonment.

Movie Synopsis:

Three people meet and become friends in London. Two of them form a relationship in turns loving and destructive. The death of one of them forces the others to reassess their lives and change or die. The main themes of 'Egression' are escape and redemption. All the characters are trying by some means or another to escape from aspects of their pasts. Whether it's by drinking, taking drugs, gambling, casual sex. What begins as fun distractions in youth leads to lives of self abuse and addiction. With forms of therapy frowned upon by the strata of society composing the piece and families distant or uncaring, the characters have no recourse but each other. After the lead female character takes her own life, the others are left with the repercussions; blame, guilt, self-doubt. Thoughts of the futility of their own existence. Deciding to simply keep on living is the nearest to redemption these characters allow themselves or are perhaps even capable of.

Movie Synopsis:

Hans Van Nuffel's award-winning feature debut paints a portrait of a teenager living with cystic fibrosis. As this cruel genetic condition slowly destroys his lungs, 17-year-old Tom (Stef Aerts) responds in a very different way to his more stoic older brother and fellow sufferer Lucas (Maarten Mertens). Between regular visits to hospital, he falls in with a bunch of hoodlums whose life of petty crime provides a welcome distraction from his reduced life expectancy. But then he meets Xavier (Wouter Hendrickx), an older man with the same condition who has refused to let it beat him down. Inspired by Xavier's optimism and energy, he takes to roaming the hospital grounds and falls for fellow patient Eline (Anemone Valcke), who's quarantined after being exposed to TB. But tragedy is just around the corner. When it strikes, Tom seeks refuge with his old friends.
