One of the latest movies up for release at the end of this month is the celebration of the Bollywood film industry, the Merchants of Bollywood. This is actually a live stage musical show that has been filmed in HD for the big screen.
The story is a fictional version about the real-life Merchant family, who have played a key role in the development of the Bollywood movie industry, for a span of three generations. Many of the classic Hindi films were choreographed by Hiralajlji Merchant during the second half of the twentieth century. His grand-daughter Vaibhavi has kept the family tradition going by becoming one of contemporary Bollywood's leading choreographers. She also produced the dances in the Merchants of Bollywood musical.
The hit musical show directed by Australian Toby Gough has already been seen live by over two million people in theatres around the world. This is a recording of the live show and it was taped at the Tivoli theatre in Barcelona. The film version includes forty performers from Film City, Mumbai.
Many of the stories told in Bollywood movies are those stories about the gods which used to be told in temples. Original Indian storytelling featured music and dance and that's why all Bollywood films are so full of colour, dance and big musical numbers.
If you've not had a chance to see the live stage show, you should definitely make a point of seeing the Merchants of Bollywood on the big screen – in some ways it's even more spectacular as it comes out on the screen in high definition with digital surround sound.
If you're looking for a film that's packed with song, dance and dazzling colour, then the Merchants of Bollywood will be just the ticket for you.
