The Divine Divas are the icons of the first generation of Brazilian transvestite artists in the 1960's. One of the first stages to host men dressed as women was the Rival Theatre, ran by Américo Leal, the director's grandfather. The film shows the intimacy, the talent and the stories of a generation that revolutionized the sexual behavior and defied the moral of a time.
Nalu is a teenager who needs to take care of her blind father after the death of her grandmother, who raised them as siblings in a modest house near Brazil/Uruguay border. When Ruben realizes his 16-year-old daughter is becoming a woman, a disturbing proximity arises between them. Initial awkwardness becomes jealousy when Rosario, an Uruguayan teacher, becomes someone important in their lives.
A young couple settles down in a large abandoned industrial warehouse. An orange strip, glued to the floor, partitions the area in two equal portions: to the right, his sculpture atelier; to the left, her dance studio. Pendular takes place in this setting, where art, performances and intimacy mingle together; and where the characters slowly lose their capacity of distinguishing between their artistic projects, their past and their romantic relationship.
